For some of us, it's like the dam is breaking and we need every finger and toe to plug all the holes because we're afraid the entire levee is about to break loose. When the pressure starts to build we use insufficient substitutions. These unhealthy strategies, such as alcohol, television, or even pseudo-healthy ways such as excessive exercise, or pouring ourselves into our career can all have the same outcome: distraction and disconnection. We do all this believing it is helping, when in actuality, we're neglecting ourselves. No matter how we try to plug the holes, if it's not wholistic, we'll never be able to stop the breaking of the dam.
